Compromise Formula to Save Kannada Actor Darshan from Jail?


Bangalore, Sep 9: The news related to arrest of Kannada superstar Darshan Toogudeep is creating furor among fans of the actor, leading to violence in Vijaynagar, Bangalore.

Thousands of his fans marched into the streets and tried to Gerrao Vijayanagr police station on Friday morning, as soon as Darshan's arrest news was spread like wildfire.

Police had tough time controlling the crowd and had to call for additional unit of police force to the spot.

The much loved sandalwood actor Darshan was in trouble on September 9 morning, after reportedly assaulting his wife Vijayalaxmi in an inebriated state.

He was accused of beating his wife and threatening her by showing the revolver. Immediately after the complaint was filed by his wife at Vijayanagar police station, cops arrested him and are waiting to produce him to the court.
But efforts are on from senior Kannada actors including Ambareesh, Jaggesh and others to reach-out a compromise formula so that, Darshan can be saved from going behind the bars. If Vijayalaxmi agrees to withdraw the complaint, Darshan can escape from legal formalities, but he has already tarnished his image due to this domestic violence.
Amabreesh, speaking to a journalist in Vijayanagar told that,  Vijayalaxmi has agreed for compromise and matter will be sorted out without proceeding further.

On the other hand, Vijayalaxi reportedly told a news person over the phone that, this is purely family matter, and media should not make it a big issue. Every one goes through the family problems, she added.

Unfortunatley, Darshan arrest news has hit the national headlines, as he is popular personality in Kannda filmdom and role model of thousands of youth in Karnataka. His fans are hoping for his smooth escape from severe punishment.

Facebook Launches Mobile Messaging App

Facebook on Tuesday afternoon introduced an app for mobile phones that acts as a standalone group chat client for mobile operating systems. The app, now live for download, expands the chat features in Facebook's existing mobile app to include features like location-sharing, mobile photo-sharing, and -- most importantly -- instant messaging to friends or groups on Facebook. The app is already available for Android and Blackberry phones along with the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad (although the app is not yet optimized for the iPad's larger screen.)

Facebook purchased messaging firm Beluga back in March and it seems that several Beluga team members have had a hand in the app's creation. The timing of the release along with its features seems like a fairly direct response to Google+ and its huddles feature that also lets you instantly chat with friends. Facebook has repeatedly denied that the flurry of recent announcements from the social networking giant and the company's chat releases, like video calling in partnership with Skype, were a response to Google's new social network, but the parallels are hard to ignore. With Google+ growing to more than 25 million users in just a little over a month, it's hard to imagine that Facebook isn't at least a little threatened.

Google+ released an update to its own app earlier this week that brought increased functionality for the nascent social network's own chat services along with iPad compatibility.Beluga's application allows groups of friends to communicate in private using their smartphones. A user can create a so-called pods, to which friends can be invited.

Within a pod, users can send messages and share images and locations, according to Beluga's website. The free application is available for Apple's iPhone and Android-based smartphones.

For now, Beluga's application will continue to function as it does today. Existing accounts and data will not be lost, the company writes.

Recently, Facebook has stepped up its smartphone push. The company has, for example, worked with HTC and INQ on smartphones with tighter Facebook integration. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg sent a video message to HTC's news conference at the Mobile World Congress last month -- where it launched the Salsa and the ChaCha -- to say users can expect many more phones with much deeper integration with Facebook to arrive this year.Today, there are more than 200 million active users accessing Facebook via their mobile devices.

What Facebook's plans are for Beluga and its three founders -- all of whom have at one time worked at Google -- remains to be seen, but more details will be released in the coming weeks, according to Beluga.

RCom Rolls Out 3G Tablet

 ADAG group telecommunication firm Reliance Communications (RCom) has made entry in the tablet computer section with the introduction of Android operating sytem (OS)-based Reliance 3G Tab.

The company has set a price of Rs 12,999 for its new offering.

In a declaration, Mr. Mahesh Prasad, President, RCom stated, "We believe the unmet demand of a fully-loaded tablet at an aggressive price point will now fuel the aspirations of the evolved customers."

The newly launched Reliance 3G tablet features a 7-inch touch screen together with Android 2.3 OS.

The tablet comes packed with 512 MB RAM and a micro SD external storage that can back up to 32 GB data storage card.

The company has 3G network crosswise 333 townships in 13 Circles.

The company's report stated that the tablet will come with discounts of around 50% on the monthly and yearly data plans.

Reliance 3G Tab is being rolled out in the national capital, Mumbai and Kolkata and will be available in Reliance World and Reliance Mobile stores crosswise the 13 circles where firm has 3G network by the coming days.

At 11:05 a. m., the stock of the company gained 3.3% to rule at Rs 86.65 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

The share price has seen a 52-week high of Rs 363 and a low of Rs 149.10 on BSE.

Current EPS & P/E ratio stood at 18.35 and 11.09 respectively.

 NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki is aggressively working on an all-new car, as Maruti's engineers embark on an independent full-model change capability, something not attempted before, managing executive officer (engineering) IV Rao said.

Rao, who declined to speak about the pricing of the new vehicle, said the idea was to develop a car that would co-exist with the Alto, the country's largest-selling car with monthly volumes averaging over 30,000 units. He shot down suggestions that the new car would be a renewed version, or fresh attempt, to revive the M800 model that has already made its way out of 13 top metros (due to stricter emission norms) and will be phased out gradually from the rest of the country in the coming years.

"This will be an all-new car, though based on an existing platform. The idea is to do it in-house at Maruti, with minimal support from our Japanese parent, Suzuki," Rao said. Maruti engineers have done facelifts on some of the existing models previously while also assisting Suzuki during the development of some global models such as the Swift and the A-Star.

The car will be meant primarily for the Indian market, he said, adding that the idea behind the model was to "constantly introduce new models while also developing the company's R&D capability to develop, design and engineer a model on its own."

Also, the company wants to fill the gap created by the phase-out of the M800. "It will be no less than a milestone for us," Rao said.

"It may co-exist with the Alto and we want to have a two-model strategy at the entry-end of the market, like we have on the upper segments where we have a multi-model approach with cars like Ritz, Swift and WagonR pitched around the same price bracket," sources said.

Maruti, Honda, Hyundai most searched car firms in India: Google

NEW DELHI: The Indian subsidiaries of Asian car giants Suzuki, Honda and Hyundai are the most searched car makers on the internet here, while Volkswagen and Fiat from Europe found berths at the bottom of a list by Google.

According to Google India's Auto Industry Report released today, vehicle-related search volume grew 110 per cent and 84 per cent (year-on-year) in 2009 and 2010 respectively on Google Search. The report shows how crucial the Internet has become in influencing purchase decisions of the consumers. More and more people are now online to research on new launches, price comparison, viewing specifications, etc," Google India Vice- President and MD Rajan Anandan told reporters here.

This has resulted in the players in the auto vertical increasing their digital advertising spends to engage car and bikes shoppers online, he added.

As per the report that considered the period between January 2010 and May 2011, Google said Maruti Suzuki was the most searched car maker in India. It was followed by Honda Siel Cars and Hyundai Motor.

The 4th most searched car maker was US giant General Motors' Indian arm. Homegrown Tata Motors found place at the 5th position. Toyota and Ford were placed at the 6th and 7th positions, respectively, Google said.

The list comprising nine top searched car firm placed Volkswagen and Fiat at the 8th and 9th slot, respectively.

Entry and mid segment cars in the price range of Rs 2-Rs 6 lakh are the most searched, while SUVs and luxury cars saw the fastest growth in terms of number of searches.

During that period Maruti Alto K10 was the most searched car, followed by Ford Figo and Hyundai i10 Next Gen.

In the two-wheeler segment, Hero Honda was the most searched company. Bajaj and Yamaha were ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively, while TVS was 4th in the list.

Indian consumers are ahead of their counterparts in the US and Europe, when it comes to use the Internet to research before buying cars and bikes, the study said.

"Compared to 65 per cent people in India, 62 per cent people in the US and Europe use online search before purchasing a vehicle, which is an interesting indicator towards consumer buying pattern," Anandan said.

He said currently auto companies in India are spending about 10 per cent of their advertising budget in digital media and the share is likely to double in the next 12-18 months.

"We have seen over 150 per cent growth in revenue from auto sector in 2010," he added.

With 84 per cent growth in 2010, auto-related queries were more searched for than other popular categories like travel and electronics. The volume of search for auto was only behind telecom, which saw an annual growth of 90 per cent.

The report also said search queries for diesel cars saw 52 per cent growth in April-May this year, when petrol prices were increased by Rs 5 per litre.

This also demonstrated our relationship with our customers and partners. They like us because we are approachable, focused; we are open and available to discussions about problems and challenges they are facing. We take full responsibility of the customer projects and keep innovating for new solutions.

While roofs across the world sport photovoltaic solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity, a Duke University engineer believes a novel hybrid system can wring even more useful energy out of the sun's rays.Instead of systems based on standard solar panels, Duke engineer Nico Hotz proposes a hybrid option in which sunlight heats a combination of water and methanol in a maze of glass tubes on a rooftop. After two catalytic reactions, the system produces hydrogen much more efficiently than current technology without significant impurities. The resulting hydrogen can be stored and used on demand in fuel cells.

For his analysis, Hotz compared the hybrid system to three different technologies in terms of their exergetic performance. Exergy is a way of describing how much of a given quantity of energy can theoretically be converted to useful work.

"The hybrid system achieved exergetic efficiencies of 28.5 percent in the summer and 18.5 percent in the winter, compared to 5 to 15 percent for the conventional systems in the summer, and 2.5 to 5 percent in the winter," said Hotz, assistant professor of mechanical engineering and materials science at Duke's Pratt School of Engineering.

The paper describing the results of Hotz's analysis was named the top paper during the ASME Energy Sustainability Fuel Cell 2011 conference in Washington, D.C. Hotz recently joined the Duke faculty after completing post-graduate work at the University of California-Berkeley, where he analyzed a model of the new system. He is currently constructing one of the systems at Duke to test whether or not the theoretical efficiencies are born out experimentally.

Hotz's comparisons took place during the months of July and February in order to measure each system's performance during summer and winter months.

Like other solar-based systems, the hybrid system begins with the collection of sunlight. Then things get different. While the hybrid device might look like a traditional solar collector from the distance, it is actually a series of copper tubes coated with a thin layer of aluminum and aluminum oxide and partly filled with catalytic nanoparticles. A combination of water and methanol flows through the tubes, which are sealed in a vacuum.

"This set-up allows up to 95 percent of the sunlight to be absorbed with very little being lost as heat to the surroundings," Hotz said. "This is crucial because it permits us to achieve temperatures of well over 200 degrees Celsius within the tubes. By comparison, a standard solar collector can only heat water between 60 and 70 degrees Celsius."

Once the evaporated liquid achieves these higher temperatures, tiny amounts of a catalyst are added, which produces hydrogen. This combination of high temperature and added catalysts produces hydrogen very efficiently, Hotz said. The resulting hydrogen can then be immediately directed to a fuel cell to provide electricity to a building during the day, or compressed and stored in a tank to provide power later.

The three systems examined in the analysis were the standard photovoltaic cell which converts sunlight directly into electricity to then split water electrolytically into hydrogen and oxygen; a photocatalytic system producing hydrogen similar to Hotz's system, but simpler and not mature yet; and a system in which photovoltaic cells turn sunlight into electricity which is then stored in different types of batteries (with lithium ion being the most efficient).

 Steve Jobs leads Apple to world domination

 Apple has some 50,000 workers around the world, but few of them would argue that it’s a guy currently on sick leave who has done more than anyone to turn the Silicon Valley institution into the most valuable company in the world.

The California-based consumer electronics company achieved that lofty status on Tuesday when its unstoppable run helped it briefly blast past Exxon Mobil in market capitalization.

Though volatile trading quickly overturned the coup, the company’s long-term trajectories signal that it is only a matter of time before Apple takes the top spot for good.

That will be a remarkable vindication for Steve Jobs, 55, the college dropout turned technology visionary who did as much as anyone to instigate the PC revolution after launching Apple in 1976.

Now he has done more than anyone to usher in the post PC-world, where the data and content that matter most to people and companies is available at every moment on myriad devices.

The basic outline of his rise, fall and triumphant resurrection bears the hallmark of a morality tale of the digital age. He saw the future of computing when he founded Apple together with Steve Wozniak, and pioneered the use of a mouse and a point-and-click command process after seeing the concept at a Xerox research lab.

His idea was promptly copied by Microsoft, which made its Windows software available to anyone and quickly captured a dominant market share in the rapidly growing market.

Mr. Jobs’ insistence that Apple software run only on Apple machines was a large part of the reason he lost a boardroom power struggle in 1985, prompting him to leave the company.

While Apple’s fortunes dwindled to the status of a struggling niche player flirting with bankruptcy, Jobs developed Pixar Animation, which would become one of the most successful film studios, and a new computer company called Next.

He was called back to Apple’s helm in 1997 and promptly set about transforming Apple from a puny weakling reliant on the life support of Microsoft to the world’s most valuable company.

Mr. Jobs’ driving idea was that the sci-fiction vision of a digital future -- where we would video-conference with wristwatch devices and download movies and music over invisible networks -- was just around the corner.

As other companies remained trapped in gradual refinements of existing technologies, Apple would make this future happen.

The first step in the grand strategy was the iPod, launched almost a decade ago. In the whiz-bang age of the iPhone and Android, it this device seems awfully humble, but 10 years ago it revolutionized the way people listened to music, combining software and hardware in a beautiful package that for the first time made it easy and intuitive to make huge music collections portable.
